People With Diabetes May Have 10 Percent Risk For Developing Cancer

People With Diabetes May Have 10 Percent Risk For Developing Cancer. Reuters (5/12, Grens) reported that individuals with diabetes are at higher risk for certain cancers than those without the metabolic disease, according to a study published in Diabetes Care.

In a poll of roughly 400,000 adults, 16 out of every 100 diabetic men and 17 out of every 100 diabetic women said they had cancer. In contrast, only seven per 100 men and 10 per 100 women had cancer without concurrent diabetes. After taking into account factors such as age, race, and smoking and drinking habits, the study team estimated that people with diabetes had a 10 percent greater likelihood for a cancer diagnosis of any type.
