Experimental Treatment May Be More Effective At Slowing Advanced Kidney Cancer Than Sorafenib.

Bloomberg News (5/20, Langreth) reports, Pfizer announced that results of a late-stage trial "showed that its experimental drug axitinib was more effective in treating advanced kidney cancer than Bayer AG's Nexavar [sorafenib]." According to a summary of the study released in advance of the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting, among the "723 patients with advanced kidney cancer," those who received "axitinib lived a median of 6.7 months before their tumors progressed, compared with 4.7 months for patients who received Nexavar." Pfizer said the findings will be presented at the ASCO meeting on June 6.
